The Strength + VO2 Max Longevity Protocol
VO2 max predicts lifespan better than smoking, BMI, or cholesterol. Muscle mass loss accelerates after 40. This is the protocol framework — research targets, weekly training structure, and the supplement layer that supports both. Free PDF.
Why VO2 max is the strongest longevity predictor
The Mandsager et al cohort (Cleveland Clinic, JAMA Network Open 2018) followed 122,007 adults. Adults in the lowest VO2 max quintile had 5× higher all-cause mortality than the highest quintile — stronger than smoking status, hypertension, diabetes, or end-stage renal disease.
Muscle is the second pillar. Janssen et al on sarcopenia: significant muscle loss = 2-3× higher mortality and dramatically higher fall/fracture/dependency risk. Muscle isn't aesthetics — it's a metabolic organ.
The weekly training template
| Day | Workout | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Resistance training (upper) | 60 min |
| Tuesday | Zone 2 cardio | 45 min |
| Thursday | Resistance training (lower) | 60 min |
| Friday | HIIT (Norwegian 4×4) | 40 min |
| Saturday | Zone 2 cardio | 45-60 min |
~4 hours/week. Most of the benefit lives in the first 3-4 hours; additional hours produce diminishing returns + injury risk.
